A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth. It can hide a stain that whitening will not lift, square off a worn or chipped edge, and even out teeth that are slightly different sizes. Because porcelain reflects light much like enamel does, a well-made veneer reads as a tooth rather than as dental work.
For porcelain veneers at our studio, the process begins with a digital scan of your teeth. That scan goes to our in-house dental lab, where the shade, length and edge shape are set for your face instead of pulled from a stock chart. Keeping the lab under our roof means a change can be made quickly if something needs adjusting, without waiting on an outside company to ship a correction. We bond veneers only after we have reviewed the planned shape with you and you are happy with it.
Yellowing builds slowly. Coffee, tea, red wine and ordinary aging leave stains inside the enamel, and the strips sold at the pharmacy tend to lighten only the surface. Professional teeth whitening uses a stronger gel applied under a dentist’s supervision, with the gums protected, so the color change is more even and the process is easier to control.
Whitening only changes natural enamel. Crowns, fillings and veneers keep their original color, so if you have older dental work on your front teeth we will point that out before you begin. A common order is to whiten first and then match any new restorations to the brighter shade. For people planning several changes, whitening is often the opening step of a larger smile makeover.

Gum health is handled before any porcelain is made, teeth are whitened before new restorations are color-matched, and crowns or veneers are designed together so the front of the smile looks like a set.
